I would suggest renting one first and trying it on gum balls.

So, did it work on sweetgum balls? I have a yard full and that is my main reason for looking at one.

Ritchie,
Actually that is a great question. I've never used one of these to try to pick up sweet gum balls. I used to have those in a yard years ago and hated walking on those things! They really hurt. Let me do some research and see if I can find anyone that has had success with this. You know, one option is to check with a local lawn and garden shop, see if anyone will rent you one to see how well it works. The basic concept for most all sweepers is the same so if one works, one of the cheaper ones like the Precision Products 26 inch lawn sweeper may work. But then there's no guarantee. Good luck.

I am looking for a sweeper that would be able to cleanup gumballs which are all over my yard each spring. I have cut the trees way back but still have many to clean up again this spring. Really only need for this 1-2 times year especially in the spring before I start mowing. Not concerned about getting up leaves and other debris just those dang gumballs!

Thanks for the feedback
